Bollinger bands are a technical trading tool developed by John Bollinger in the early 1980s. Bollinger Bands are volatile bands placed above and below a moving average. Volatility is based on the standard deviation, which changes as volatility increases and decreases.
Bollinger Bands consist of a middle band with two outer bands. The middle band is a simple moving average whereas the outer bands are usually set 2 standard deviations above and below the middle band. Breakout of Bollinger bands signals a possible correction at the market.
